At some point we all find ourselves feeling like we are victims. It is the nature of our egos to look outside of ourselves for validation, gratification, or even a reason to live. As such, anytime something doesn’t go the way of our liking, it is because someone or something outside of ourselves caused it. Ta-da! We are now the victim!
Victimhood is an interesting place; it creates us against them, it is the reason we can’t succeed, and it is most often the reason we pray. Odd isn’t it that a loving, benevolent god would create us to so easily become victims….
As has been said so many times before, we create our own reality. We control ourselves, our emotions and our reactions to what is before us. We each have that responsibility. If we don’t like it, then change it, but don’t blame anyone else. Nevertheless, it is easy to forget the words on the paper. It is easy to allow our egos to slip us into the shoes of the victim.
To be a victim, we also need both a perpetrator and a rescuer. Can’t be a damsel in distress unless someone big and bad ties you to the rails, and, of course, the game is not over unless that knight in shining armor rescues you. We play this triangle “victim” drama over and over throughout our lives. Sometimes we are the knight, sometimes we are the bad guy and sometimes we are the victim. Most of the time our label in the game depends on our perspective of the drama. Is a soldier a knight coming to liberate the masses, a bully terrorizing the masses or the victim of the enemy? Depends on which side we are on doesn’t it.
Once you understand the game, it is easy to recognize when you are playing it. Think about your individual dramas. Is there a victim? Is there a perpetrator? What about a rescuer, even if that rescue only comes in death? Welcome to the game.
You can stop anytime you want to. God, with a capital G, is within you and you are within God. You have the absolute power to step outside the drama. You are not a victim any more than God is a victim. The choice is yours. Continue to play the game and embrace your choice or step outside the game. Recognize that you are not a pawn in a game outside of your control.
Victimhood is wrapped up with fear. Fear of what might happen, fear of the unknown. Be present. Be in the now. Breathe, connect with your Higher Self and know it is all an illusion. Fear cannot exist in the now. Step away from the situation and observe. Know that being a player in the victim game is of your own making. It is a game that you control and can stop. It is as simple as stepping off the mat.
