My wife and I were walking around a house under construction a few years ago and heard the quiet strained meow of a stray kitten.  He was tiny, alone, full of fleas and scared.   He couldn’t have been more than a few weeks old.  He had backed himself into a small space about six feet off the ground and wouldn’t move.

He cried and cried, obviously wanting help, yet he was too scared to take the first step.  If we got too close, he would hiss and claw, yet when we started to walk away he cried for help.  Finally, after a lot of patience and a little prodding the scared little kitten took a leap of faith.  He landed in my wife’s arms, shivering from fear and purring at the same time.  “Sandman” now lives with my daughter and struts his stuff on walks at the end of a leash as a quite large Maine Coon Cat.

Sandman’s story illustrates the relationship between you and your Higher Self, your True Self.  In case you missed it, you are the cat.  You are that stray kitten.

We all have free will, the freedom to make any choice we want to make. If we want to back ourselves into a corner high off the ground, that’s our business.  Some of us will walk around up there for years, while others are paralyzed with fear.  However, in time all of us will come to the realization that there is more to our existence than that shelf we have claimed as our own.  In time we will want to grow to our full potential.

Enter your Higher Self, your True Self.  It is that part of you that is always there, patiently waiting for you to realize you are more than just your body in this existence.  It would not be helpful if your True Self simply grabbed you up by the scruff of the neck.  You would hiss and claw, just like the kitten.  You need to take that first step.  Calling out for help may let everyone know where you are, but you still need to take that leap of faith.   Your True Self will prod you along, send you messages and show you the way, but you have to take the initiative.  Only you can overcome your fear and answer the call to something more.  We are all called, we are all chosen, but few are willing to take that first step.

Know that it is only that first step that you need to take.  You will be caught by loving hands.  You will be safe, and you will be nurtured to your full potential.  Your True Self is waiting for you with outstretched arms.

Isn’t it time to take that first step Home?

Now we are doing yoga…
