Typically, I write these articles with a theme in mind and then let my Higher Self lead the way.  Today, however, is different.  I have no theme, no idea that I want to expound upon.  My mind is a blank slate, so where shall the Universe take us?

Part of the human experience is the need to control.  There are a myriad of degrees of control, but we all want some form of control.  At the very least, we want to know the general direction we are headed, even if what is around the bend is a surprise.  Giving up all control is a very difficult thing to do.

Why is that?  Why is it so difficult to release control?  Is it an issue of not trusting that control to another?  Is it the fear of the unknown?  That is a completely rational response.  It is quite reasonable to require at least some input in the direction of your life.  After all, it is your life.

I would never suggest that you relinquish control of the unknown to the unknown.  While going through this life with no one at the helm may sound like the grandest of adventures, you will soon find yourself sailing in circles.  We need direction and a sense of purpose.  So, the question is not whether someone should be at the helm to provide direction, but rather who should take that responsibility.

As I have said many times before, we are not able to judge anyone or anything from within this experience.  We lack the perspective to understand where we are headed.  It is not unlike a yoga class.  The teacher puts us through multiple seemingly unrelated poses as a setup to achieve the peak pose that could not have been achieved, but for the poses that warmed and trained our bodies.  Life is no different. We need all those unrelated experiences to properly embrace that peak experience that we chose to live in this lifetime.

Back to the question at hand.  To whom should you relinquish control?  Yourself, of course.  You are a part of your Higher Self.  Your Higher Self is larger and more complex than the self you see in the mirror, but it contains you nevertheless.  Who better to trust your direction in this life than that from which you came?  Once you understand that you are a part of the quiet voice, there is nothing to fear.

Take the steps necessary to trust your Higher Self.  Baby steps if you must, but move in that direction.  Your Higher Self knows every aspect of who you are and what you need.  Relax in that knowing and step away from the helm.  Meditate, actively give up control to your Higher Self in all aspects of your life and trust the answers you are given.  You will be amazed at how beautiful you actually are.

Indeed, the Universe took me where I needed to be.

Now we are doing yoga…
