2020 is here!!  Wow!  Obviously, it is the past that got us here, the question is which past?  Can we change the past as we embrace the present and look to the future?  Can we erase all those mistakes, all those hurtful actions and embarrassing moments?  How about all those things other people did to us and the damage they caused?

The answer is absolutely!  The only thing between you and that past that haunts you is ….. you.  As we start a new year let us all resolve to step away from our past injuries, disappointments, and mistakes.  Let us love and embrace who we are as we step forward into our new lives with confidence!

OK, so how do we do that?  How do we wave the magic wand and travel back in time to change our past?  Can that really be done?  All my philosopher friends, as well as every time travel story ever made, tells us that changing something in the past will also change the present and the future, often in unintended and disastrous ways.

Perhaps they have a point as far as changing physical events in our 3d reality, but there is no need to argue that point to change what haunts us today.  Their argument has no bearing on the answer to the question.  Confused yet?

I had a very unique childhood.  We moved a lot.  My parents went through a 5+ year divorce starting when I was 9 years old.  Lots of tears.  I went to 10 different schools in the 12 years of grade school and lived in 9 different houses before I was 16.  I have countless stories of a substance-abusing mother, a father who I rarely saw and 2 stepfathers, but it’s all good.  Really.

Can I change my past or will I be forever haunted and damaged by it?  It is all a matter of perspective.  We are all Holy Children of God. All of us.  Even ________  (feel free to fill in the blank).  As such, we cannot truly be harmed in any way.  We can get pretty beat up, both physically and emotionally, but our True Selves can never be harmed.   Anyone that tells you differently is creating a fiction in order to control you.

Collectively, we cannot understand or appreciate joy without having an understanding of sorrow.  How can you fully grasp the attributes of a strong family and friends without understanding a broken home and lack of a support network?  Who do you think better understands the blessing of walking on the beach, the woman with 1 good leg or 2?

None of this is meant to create pity or to darken the narrative for anyone.  The point is that everything, and I mean everything, that happens to each one of us can be viewed as a blessing or as a curse.  It all depends on your perspective.

Every action, reaction,  and event in your life, both big and small are a part of who you are today.  All of it.  If you are to love yourself as you are,  don’t you have to love all that has happened to get you this far?  It is all a part of you and every experience helped to create you.  To change anything you have to first love everything without condition.  If your big toe tripped you up, you wouldn’t cut it off for being bad, you would love and heal it so that it doesn’t happen again.  This is no different.

Embrace your past, send Love to every moment that haunts you.  Ask your Higher Self to tell you why that past action happened.  What good came from it for you?  How did it help you along your journey of evolving to a higher state of consciousness?  Do this through meditation for each and every past circumstance that you cannot currently embrace with peace.

I never said changing the past would be easy, but it’s worth it.  The only thing we take with us from this existence when we leave is our experience.  The more experiences you have, the more extreme – both good and bad, the richer your life.  The truly wealthy among us are those that lived life to the fullest and radiated Love to all that walked with them – even if radiating Love had to be done after the fact.

Go to that place in meditation where you are loved, safe and at peace.  It might be a pool of water in the forest or beside a meadow.  It might be on top of a mountain or at the ocean.  Go to your place and call forth the Light and Love of Creation.  Let it grow and consume your very being.  Bask in its presence.  Now invite in that person or that event that haunts you.  Wrap the darkness you see with the Light and Love.  Let them know that they are Holy Children of the Creator, they are without sin and Creation, itself, is not complete without them.  Thank them for the lesson that they have given you and release them.  Tell them that they are no longer needed and release them with Light and Love.  Understand?  You release them.  Watch as they recede from sight, leaving you loved, protected and at peace.

You have just changed the past.  Walk into your present and look to your future all the while radiating Love to all those that walk with you.

Now we are doing yoga ….
